Reverse Mortgages
The Housing Authority provides housing counseling for seniors who are considering a Home Equity Conversion Mortgage (HECM), also known as a reverse mortgage.
For required reverse mortgage counseling you may wish to consult the AARP
web site or ask your reverse mortgage lender for a referral to a counseling
agency that can provide the required counseling by phone. The Housing
Authority does not currently provide mortgage counseling by phone.
The Housing Authority of the County of Santa Cruz has a limited Housing Counseling Program. Currently in-depth individual foreclosure assistance cannot be provided. The most effective initial action you can take is to read the HUD "How to Avoid Foreclosure" brochure and contact your lender(s). In the event you need extensive one on one assistance you may wish to call 1-888-955-HOPE for individual assistance or visit the following website www.995hope.org/.
